Mouni was born on 28-09-1985 in Cooch Behar ( West Bengal ) to a Bengali middle-class descent where her father Anil Roy and mother Mukti Roy were working as an Office Superintendent and high school teacher. She belongs to a family with Indian art and culture. Her father and uncle both play The Tabla very well. Her mother is also a very good singer. Her aunt is also a well known Indian Guitar player. Mouni was blessed with natural acting abilities along with other skills like dancing, singing, sketching etc. She had also participated in such events when was in school. Her paternal grandfather Shekhar Chandra Roy was an infamous theatre artist at that time. Along with Kathak, she is also trained in other forms of dancing too. She initiated her career as a choreographer when was studying in her college. Other than all stated talents, she loves the art of pottery too. She can make Muppets with mastery in Japanese puppetry called Bunraku. As far as her education is concerned, she holds M.A in Mass Communication Jamiya Milia.
